The Mission Marketplace is a nonprofit, volunteer-supported, community marketplace that sells many handcrafted items made by economically impoverished people in developing regions of the world. We at The Mission Marketplace believe that each village in the world represents a unique, distinctive group of people. Our goal is to create economic opportunities for craftspeople around the world through the practice of Fair Trade and attempt to increase global understanding by telling these talented artisans’ stories. We are focusing on those who are helping themselves, despite being homeless. We recommend the following books on the subject:
During Sounds and Sights of Thursday Nights, visit the store to meet representatives from various local agencies working with the homeless. See our events page for specific information. |
Staffing Updates:
We are thrilled to welcome Marilyn Jachalke and Cynthia Edwards to The Mission
Marketplace team. Marilyn brings with her a warm smile, a wealth of educational and volunteer experience. Cynthia shares a similar warm smile, experience with volunteers and can speak personally and eloquently about the benefits that fair trade offers to women in Nepal. Please introduce yourself, enjoy a Free cup of Fair Trade Coffee and get to know these two new shining stars. We would like to offer our congratulations to Rebecca Schuling for being offered and having accepted a faculty position at Michigan State University. With her fashion and design skills, she will be an awesome addition to the faculty and will certainly increase their faculty style quotent. We are happy that Rebecca has chosen to continue on our Board of Directors.
